ROSEVILLE, CA – April 8, 2009 – Not only can you get your local youth and high school sports news online, but now you can get your news in the form of a new 30-minute weekly sports show titled the “SureWest Sports Show”.
Leading independent communications holding company SureWest Communications (NASDAQ: SURW) has joined forces with Front Page Sports to launch the only youth and high school sports show in the greater Sacramento region. This new sports program can be seen on channel 702 on SureWest digital TV, as well as online by going to www.surewestsports.com.
“We have been thinking about a show like this for over a year and a half and we are proud to have partnered with a company so dedicated to the greater Sacramento community like SureWest is,” said Mike Finnerty, editor-in-chief and president of Front Page Sports. “We see this show as an opportunity to do something great for our community by putting a spotlight on the efforts and accomplishments of youth and high school athletes with our wide range of game highlights, coach and player interviews, Player of the Week honors, and other special features.”
Finnerty serves as the host of the show which airs a new program every Wednesday at 7:00pm and is replayed multiple times each day throughout the week. In addition to providing the show on TV as well as online (www.surewestsports.com), the program will soon be made available for viewing on SureWest’s online customer homepage, My SureWest (www.surewest.net), and in the SureWest digitial TV On-Demand library.
“Sacramento residents have been demanding a show like this due to the enthusiasm surrounding youth and high school sports,” said Peter Drozdoff, SureWest’s vice president of marketing. “To meet that demand we created the ‘SureWest Sports Show,’ the first program to send cameras and commentators to both youth and high school sporting events so young athletes and parents can watch game highlights on their TVs and online.”
The show consists of scores and highlights from high school and youth games around the region for sports such as football, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, wrestling, soccer, golf, tennis, track & field, swimming, diving and volleyball. In addition to scores and highlights, each program includes a spotlight interview with a coach and player, local sports writers are interviewed in the “Sports Chat” segment, and the SureWest boy’s and girl’s “Players of the Week” are announced. The show also looks ahead at next week’s key match ups, and will soon provide a sports tip segment from experts around the region.
The first season of the "SureWest Sports Show" will capture the majority of the winter sports season and playoffs as well as the entire spring sports season and playoffs. Additionally, summer action from Little League All-Stars and other youth sports will be covered.
