After a three-month playoff, which began in September and ended last Sunday, the Rocklin Strikers, a girls U13 soccer team, end their season as the NorCal Gold Champions. This was the Strikers’ second major championship in the last three years.

The NorCal State Cup began in September with the top 36 teams participating for honors in five brackets, Premier, Gold, Silver and Bronze. On the road to the Gold finals, Rocklin encountered several big challenges, including wins over state powerhouses: Santa Rosa Shock and Tracy Dynamite.

After qualifying for the final game with a 3-2 win over Tracy, Rocklin had to wait to see who their opponent would be. With Dublin Fury’s 2-1 victory over Boca, Rocklin was set for a rematch with Dublin, whom they defeated earlier in the year in another final’s game at the Davis Shootout.

In the Final match, Rocklin played the Dublin Fury in Manteca. Rocklin opened the game with a strong attack and built a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes. The rest of the half was a seesaw match with Rocklin holding their lead at 2-0 going into half time. Dublin closed the gap early in the second half with a goal on a free kick, making it 2-1. The remainder of the match saw both teams mounting a strong attack; however, Rocklin’s defense showed that it could bend without breaking and held Dublin without a shot on goal over the final 25 minutes to hold the score at 2-1 and secure the victory for Rocklin.

The Rocklin Strikers are: Jaymi Boynton, Danielle DeRosa, Lauren Fessenden, Shannon Garvella, Lauren Janowsky, Marissa Johansson, Shelby King, Jessica Miller, Summer Muir, Katie O'Brien, Haley Olivas, Laura Purdy, Jorgie Smith, Michelle Tran, and Riley Wynne. Coaches: Kelly Boynton, Mark Janowsky, and Dominick DeRosa.
